Evaluation of Marble Alteration Processes

Abstract The aim of the paper consists in study three Romanian types marble (Ruschita, Albesti, Carrara) with different compositions temperature conditions, for periods time. samples were exposed to two treatments: 25 cycles freeze-thaw (according SR EN 12371) and 3 exposure high temperatures (400 °C 1 hour). Following cycles, small differences chromatic parameters could be observed (∆E = 2.2 Carrara Italia ∆E 7.2 Rușchița pink marble). freezing coefficient all is low (0.016% - 0.029%). treatment, show large 43.47 Albesti marble) significant changes gloss. surface showed cracks microcracks. Based on results this study, following conclusions can drawn: Thermal cause mechanical disintegration outer part marble, starting from discontinuities contained rock between faces minerals that form stone.
